A little history of Saint-Guénolé church in Batz-sur-Mer

We found here a priory raised in 945 by count of Nantes Alain Barbe-Torte (future duke of Brittany) then gave to Landévennec abbey.

The high Gothic church dates back to the end of the 15th century. Outside, we immediately notice the huge granite tower, rebuilt in 1657 after a big storm: it was probably used as a lantern, in the past...

You know what? We can climb in this tower! About 100 stairs and the view is breathtakingly beautiful! When the sun comes up, we can see the island of Noirmoutier!
