Castle Caen castle

In the heart of Caen city, perched at the top of its steep slope, the huge fortress and its surrounding wall quickly became the residence of dukes of Normandy then the one of kings of France.

Put up in 1066 by order of William the Conqueror for the king of England and duke of Normandy Henri Beauclerc, this is one of the biggest fortified place in the Middle Ages in Europe. Nowadays, it houses the fine arts museum and also the Normandy museum.
