The little history

The Gâtinais is a pretty old area, including Loiret, Eure-et-Loir, Loir-et-Cher (Centre), Seine-et-Marne, Essonne and Yvelines (Ile-de-France), Yonne and Nièvre (Burgundy).

A very huge territory planted with lots of flowers which give the honey its delicate flavour!

Gâtinais honey’s celebrity came only in the 18th century. Because at the beginning, people didn’t like its dark colour and its strong taste.

Fortunately, this honey turned into a pretty delicious and fine product, thanks to the introduction of new flowers in the area, like the sainfoin, a kind of little pink flower, given as fodder for horses.

Nowadays, honey from Gâtinais is made with colza, clovers and sunflowers.
