Castle Siege Animals Haut-Barr castle

During the War of the Austrian Succession, in 1740, general Nadasti and baron de Trenck besieged Saverne castle... then Haut-Barr fortress.

The tradition says everyone left the place, except… the farmer’s son. And this one wanted to cross swords with enemies!

He climbed on the castle’s highest place with a little she-goat.

Hey, not a silly idea! The animal would feed him with its milk, in case of siege…

And after a long moment, enemies retreated: they could not starve out this combatant!
