Town house Villeneuve d'Ansouis townhouse

Raised in 1757, this is the native house of marquis de Javon, Folco de Baroncelli: a real herdsman, a fervent defendant of Camargue traditions!

He was born in 1869 in Aix, in a family who came from Florence, (Italy) in the 15th century.

Folco spoke Provençal since he was a kid: oh, a pretty bad thing, for noble people, at that time!

But the young man moved in Camargue, in Sainte-Maries-de-la-Mer, to create his own herd of horses, manade: he was 30 years old.

He was a free man, with his small Camargue horses, white as salt, his black bulls, the salty wind...

He created the Camargue Cross in 1924 and founded the Nacioun Gardiano in 1909, his "Herdsman Nation", to keep Camargue traditions alive.
