Briare's lords of the canal

Now, we are in front of the current city hall: the château des seigneurs du canal, "lords of the canal's castle". Where does this name come from?

Well, they built a canal in Briare in the 17th century. Men who administered it get a droit de justice and were ennobled.

They set up their company's seat in an old fortress, which would later become lords of the canal's house!
