Castle Bayers castle

Once upon a time a nice golden castle, fief of La Rochefoucauld family... This powerful family from Charentes owned several castles in the area: Blanzac, Marthon, La Rochefoucauld, Verteuil... owned between the 9th and the 12th century.

Then Guy de La Rochefoucauld later became lord of Bayers (pronounce Bayé) when he owned the land!

But we already found a former stronghold, here, since the 11th century. Well, the current castle dates back to the 15th century, after destructions during Hundred Years War.

La Rochefoucauld family kept Bayers until 1760: then it was sold to a chap called Delage. But the Revolution approached... They seized and sold the castle. So, Bayers was abandoned and went to ruin.

In 1976, André Degorce bought it and restored it: 12 years later, it was a brand new castle! Nowadays we can visit this very medieval fortress.
