A little history of Brest castle

Castle Brest castle

Gallo-Roman fortified the place in the 3th century, Conan II, duke of Léon, put up a new fortress in 1064.

Purchased by Jean I duke of Brittany, Brest castle took part in all wars!

During Hundred Years War, the English led by Edward III settled in the castle, in 1342.

30 years later, Breton constable Du Guesclin besieged Brest: the enemy only left in 1397!

Vauban reinforced the defensive feature of the fortress from 1681.

During World War II, Brest was one more time in the turmoil. Bombings destroyed the castle in August 1944.
