A little history of Régemortes bridge

A first rise in the water level destroyed the old stone bridge in 1676. A brand new one was raised in 1685, but it collapsed 4 years later.
Then in 1705, they laid down the first stone of a new bridge based on architect Mansard's drawings. In 1710, a huge swelling of the river destroyed almost everything.
Engineer Louis de Régemortes put up the current 13 arches bridge between 1754 and 1762: a real masterpiece! For that matter, Régemortes published a book in 1771 about the construction of the bridge...
