Fortification Saint-Florent citadel

Long time ago, Romans raised a city called Nebbium, next to the current city of St-Florent.

In 1140, they built a fortress, a true strategical site!

Napoleon I said about it: "It's the best location I've ever seen. It's next to France and to Italy. I would like to raise a beautiful city like that, I'd call it capital city."

Saint-Florent was the seat of the Governor; the place was besieged by the Italians, the English and the French!

Seized by the marshal de Termes in 1553, Saint-Florent was given back to the Genovese few months later.
