A little history of Strasbourg former toll

The most ancient part dates back to 1538, before they extended it in the 15th and 16th centuries and restored it in the 19th century. Located in the river Ill's banks, where boats used to berth in order to pay the toll (douane in French), it nowadays houses an exhibitions hall and a restaurant!
