What’s this?

Here’s a crispy shortbread, with a round or oval shape and a nice golden colour: the sablé from Nançay (Central France)!

Made with flour, butter, eggs and 100% natural flavouring, you can eat it plain or with chocolate chunks.

Perfect with a cup of coffee or an ice-cream!

The little history

The sablé was in fact the fruit of a pastry-cook’s mistake, Jacques Fleurier, in 1953.

He worked with his dad in the familial bakery. He had to make a cake, but he forget an ingredient and the paste failed.

Instead of throwing it into the bin, his dad suggested him to make little biscuits.

Nice idea! He decided to sell them, and… customers loved them! So he made sablés again and again…
