In the shade of the impressive fortress, the small flowered streets are charming! As you follow the path, you'll come across a well, an old gate, and bang: you are catapulted in the past of Yèvre-le-Châtel...
This powerful fortress was for centuries the most important royal stronghold in Loiret. The first lord of Yèvre was Arnoul, nephew of bishop of Orléans: he raised a first castle in 1000.
Later, in 1204, Amaury de Montfort, constable of France, built the current castle and gave it to his heirs.
The fortress is a 30 metres long lozenge, with 4 towers in angles. Round towers is 10 metres in diameter, curtains is 3 metres thick and 15 metres high. The castle's dwelling is a vast house leant against the western curtain.
