A little history of Barrières castle

Castle Barrières castle

This ruined castle was named after a lord called Barrières, who rebuilt it in the Middle-Ages. Just imagine it as a small square fortress flanked by towers, probably raised on the foundations of the old stronghold.

Destroyed many times by Barbarians, by Pépin the Short who fought against duke of Aquitaine, by Normans...

Nevertheless, the main building dates back to the 14th century. Protestants, when they besieged the city during wars of Religion, expelled the lord from his castle and burnt it.

And the fortress wasn't rebuilt...
