Lagrasse abbey Abbey Benedictine

Lagrasse was called after a man called Crassus, and from the Latin name gracia, "grace"...

In 788, the abbot Nymfridius (also nicknamed Nébridius, future bishop of Narbonne) came here with monks, in this desert place called Lovalias. Lords gave them lands, and monks started to clear, plant vineyard, and above all, raise a church and an abbey.

From the 9th century, an abbey called Our-Lady of Lagrasse was mentioned in the place called Novoligo.
