Parish church Notre-Dame church in Carentan

Carentan was the old city of Crociatoum, which suffered a lot during the Middle-Ages: it was many time besieged, notably by Edward III in 1346. The city burnt entirely, but our 11th century Romanesque church was saved!

But it went to ruin. The generous Guillaume de Cerisay, Cotentin's bailiff, gave the money for the reconstruction. So, building work began in the middle of the 15th century, with choir and ambulatories. June 1944's bombings damaged our church a lot (the choir, the organ and stained-glass windows...)
