Paris gate in Lille Arch Louis XIV

Put up from 1685 to 1692 by Simon Vollant, in honour of Louis XIV, this triumphal arch was part of the fortification of the town.

We can see sculptures of Lille's coat of arms, a lis, and France's blazon, represented by 3 fleurs de lis. At the highest point, the Victory allegory crowns Louis XIV.

And also!
