Arch Louis XIV Paris gate in Lille

Put up from 1685 to 1692 by Simon Vollant, in honour of Louis XIV, this triumphal arch was part of the town fortification.

We can see sculptures of Lille coat of arms, a lis, and France blazon, represented by 3 fleurs de lis. At the highest point, the Victory allegory crowns Louis XIV.
