A little history of Place de la Bourse in Bordeaux

Bordeaux, was, with Paris, the most beautiful city in France, in the 18th century! At that time, they needed a brand new square, dedicated to the king... The famous architect Gabriel was put in charge of the building site, from 1729. The square was completed in 1755. They also raised a bronze statue of Louis XV, in 1743, based on drawings by Lemoine. But this square was entirely built around two big town houses, the Bourse and the Fermes townhouse. You know what? Gabriel was inspired by the place Vendôme, in Paris...
