Parish church Saint-Etienne church in Périgueux

Former cathedral, Saint-Etienne dates back 12th century, put up on the foundation of an old temple dedicated to Mars. It was the first Christian church of Périgueux, and the bishop saint Front consecrated it to saint Etienne.

Destroyed by Protestants in 1577 and during the Fronde rebellion, restored in the 17th century, the church was deconsecrated during the French Revolution. It lost its title of cathedral in 1669 in aid of Saint-Front.
