A little history of Saint-Martin-de-Juaye abbey

Abbey Premonstratensians Saint-Martin-de-Juaye abbey

The abbey was founded in the 12th century, occupied by monks from the Premonstratensian order.

Current buildings (we can visit the church, cloister, library and refectory) date back to the 18th century.

The abbey plans were designed by Eustache Restout, abbot of Juaye.

He was Jean Restout's (a famous Norman painter) uncle. Eustache was an artist too, he completed nice paintings which decorated the abbey's church, then brought in Bayeux...
