A little history of the pont de Bir-Hakeim

Here we are on the old Passy viaduct. It became “Bir Hakeim bridge” in 1949, to commemorate the battle during the World War II in Libya desert (May 1942).

In the beginning, we found here the bridge raised for the Universal Exhibition of 1878.

Then, we had the viaduct erected in the beginning of the 20th century, for the aerial underground.

This exploit was created by engineer Biette and architect Formigé.

We can see statues on piers: allegories of river Seine, of Work, of Electricity and Trade.
