Saint-Serge Orthodox church in Paris Parish church

Raised in 1861 by the German Protestant priest Frederic von Bodelschwingh, this church was very popular until the World War I. Then, it was seized and sold by auction, because it was a German property! The Orthodox church bought it in July 1924, on the saint Serge's day...

Raised on a little hill which came from the Buttes-Chaumont, the red-bricked church distinguished from other with the sculpted porch, the outside stairs added to the façade in 1924. On the stairs, we can see paintings: saints of the Orthodox church! Those paintings were made by a former theatre decorator, Dimitri Stelletsky. Well, it's a very nice surprise, it's definitely worth going out of your way to see it!
