The former church, a Benedictine chapel destroyed by Normans, was replaced by the current church (15th century, altered in the 17th and 19th centuries).
The legend says baron de Chantal (famous writer Mrs. de Sévigné's father) wrote an epitaph on one of the pillar.
He passed away during the battle of the island of Ré, in 1627, faced with the English. His men buried him in this church...
