Parish church Saint-Michel church in Murato

Famous French historian Prosper Mérimée said it was the "most elegant and beautiful church of Corsica"!

Saint-Michel church has a nice polychrome decoration, with dark green schist and white limestone.

It was raised in the 12th century, when people from Pisa used to govern Corsica. They started to build towns, bridges, roads, cathedrals... and this little church.

On the façade, we can see some interlacings and strange figures. Mérimée said those sculptures were "obscene"!
