Abbey Accident Cistercian Legend Richard Lionheart Bonport abbey

Founded by Richard Lionheart, the legend says one day of 1190, this noble lord fell in a precipice with his horse. He prayed the Virgin Mary to save him… and fell safe and sound, on dry land! To thank her, he founded, in front of the accident’s place, a small chapel with a deserved name: Bonport (″safely″)!
