Animals Legend Parish church Saint-Pierre church in Airvault

Just in front of the church, on the place du Minage, we have the underground fountain dedicated to St-Pierre. A natural spring already used by the Gallo-Romans!

The legend says the founder of the abbey, Hildéarde, fell in the fountain, one day. A cow immediately jumped in the water to get her back, because she was drowning!

The herbivore saved the woman but paid with its life… Look, a sculpture on the church’s façade recalls that event! Concerning the fountain, you can visit it.
