General hospital Epidemic Legend Lys-Saint-Georges leper-house

This is the remain of the general hospital of Lys-Saint-Georges!

The legend says it was founded with the castle of Lys-Saint-Georges, by a lord of Lys who went back from Crusades with the leprosy!

He needed a place where he could take shelter and have medical cares...

In fact, the leper-house dates back to the 13th century: it housed pilgrims and poor people.

The hospital was a dependency of Neuvy-Saint-Sépulchre’s chapter.

During wars of Religion, the building where the sick persons were cured was destroyed.

Today the chapel and a small house (a barn) are still standing.
