River River Creuse in Argenton-sur-Creuse

Creuse? A 263 kilometres river crossing Indre, Indre-et-Loire, Vienne… And we find it here, in Argenton!

From the Old city bridge, we have a nice view on the quiet water.

Close your eyes and imagine the Old bridge full of shops and houses, in the Middle Ages!

But those buildings needlessly weighed down the bridge, so they razed them in the 19th century.

The first bridge was raised in the 15th century, but a big floods devastated everything in 1530…

The Old bridge was used in the Middle Ages to link the Upper city to the Lower one, located on the right bank of the river.

It was made of wood and a fortified gate used to protect its ends.
