Henri Espérandieu put up this palace in the heart of Marseille city, inaugurated in August 1869.

At that time, that was the only way to bring drinking water to people from Marseille. This water tower was supplied by Durance's waters, captured one hundred kilometres away!

We can notice huge sculpted groups, as for instance the representation of river Durance bringing wealth and fecundity in Marseille, a masterpiece designed by sculptor Cavelier.
