Henri IV had here in Nérac plenty of love stories, when he was young! Like the one he had with Fleurette, daughter of the castle’s gardener.
The tradition says the poor Fleurette was quickly abandoned by Henri, who fell in love with another one… she drowned herself in a pond in the park, in 1592.
This lady will give the French expression conter Fleurette, “to murmur sweet nothings to somebody”
Well, in fact, Fleurette really existed, but she died about 15 years before her supposed drowning in 1592…
