The first castle was raised for Guéthenoc, viscount de Porhoët, in the beginning of the 11th century.

Burnt by Henri II Plantagenet in 1173, the castle fell to the famous constable Olivier de Clisson, in 1407.

At the end of the 15th century, a nice Renaissance main building was put up. But in the 17th century, the fortress was razed by the cardinal de Richelieu...
