What’s this?

A famous Breton recipe... the pancake (galette in French)!

Made with famous sarrasin or blé noir, "buckwheat"...

The little history

The buckwheat from Central Asia was introduced in Brittany with Crusades, in the 12th century.

The buckwheat pancake was the most basic food for Breton people.

Nowadays, we eat them with chitterlings sausages, eggs and cheese, but... in the past, people ate them only with butter, soaked in soup or cut in slices and cooked in a pan.

Traditionally, the pancake is cooked in the bilig, a big round cooking plate.
