The Mentchikoff, a little Russian touch in Chartres

Speciality

What’s this?

A white candy created in 1893 by confectioner Daumesnil, in Chartres (Eure-et-Loir), to celebrate the French-Russian alliance.

Yummy! It's a chocolate with sugared almonds and an icing flavoured with vanilla (the famous "Swiss meringue", meringue suisse).

The little history

Alexandre Danilovitch Menchikov (1672-1729) was, in the reign of Peter the Great, governor of Saint-Petersburg, prince of the Russian Empire, general...

Then they sent him in exile in Siberia.

The legend says he was a pastrycook’s son and a pastrycook himself when he was young!
